Basics Home was founded in 2008 and is a Durban-based, South Africa born and bred, online store that stocks a range of well-styled, affordable, local and international, home furniture, décor products and more!

In a nutshell – we improve productivity and personalized comfort in the workplace, by supplying a range of functional office chairs (typist/student, task/mid-back, manager & executive chairs), desks, bar stools, home furniture, just to name a few.

Our business has changed so much over the past 20 years, which has been something necessary to meet and exceed our customer’s requirements and expectations. These changes have made our business look and feel very different now to what we looked like then but all for one purpose, to make us better at what we do and how we do it.


Basics is owner-managed and run by a team of ladies who are passionate about people – our people, our customers, our friends.

Being in business together for this long, we have learnt that we are agile and resilient, and above all, we are truly excited about and grateful for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Our Values



At Basics, we have a 1500m2 facility in Mayville, Durban and we welcome visitors. Our showroom always has a batch of clearance samples to show and other exciting things to see.

It is our calling to lead the fast changing online world, throughout Africa, in the categories of products and services we supply. To achieve this we know that we need to serve our customers best. This is a culture that we live, breathe and continue to grow everyday!

We import and supply well over 50 different styles of furniture items as well as offer a complete office solution to meet your requirements. We offer assembly, nationwide delivery and carry stock of spare parts.

All products come with a one-year manufacturer warranty on parts, and we provide after-sales service, directly through our office, making it easy to get in touch with us and track your repairs. We are happy to service chairs even if they are out of warranty, and even if they were not purchased from us. If you are not in Durban or you just don’t have the time to stop by and try out a chair, don’t worry, our online store is the solution. You can get your hands on everything that you have your eye on!

Our eCommerce website is extremely user-friendly, with various payment options such as Payfast, Zapper, Payflex, and MobiCred.


Although we sell office furniture directly to the public, we do collaborate and work with interior designers and resellers.
